Another Setback

After only one and a half days at home, we returned to the UCLA emergency room today as Judith's wound once again got out of control. Our reception at the hospital was amazing. Instead of long waits to be seen, we were greeted at the door by the head of the ER, told we were now VIPs (which we believed meant "frequent fliers") and ushered into their best ER room and immediately seen by a large team of surgeons and nurses.

We believe this treatment was the result of the wonderful attitude d that by Judith and I had displayed to the entire team during her previous stays. There is no doubt that they are all rooting for her and are trying to hard to solve her multiple problems.

For those of us (including Greg, Jessica, Judith's mom Gerry and a professional caregiver) who had spent two horrible nights trying to deal with all this at home, seeing Judith safe at the hospital was a relief, as it was for Judith herself. But this routine of in and out of the hospital is also frightening for us. We hope and pray that the wound will finally heal soon.

By the way, Judith said she was "heartbroken" on Thursday when the trouble with the wound resurfaced, because our new friend Leonard Cohen (yes, THAT Leonard Cohen) had invited her to a closed rehearsal that day as he prepared to leave on the European part of his world tour. All the immediate doctors and caregivers at UCLA Hospital knew about this invitation and were excited and were preparing her for the excursion. They were aware that Judith and I had obtained tickets to one his sold-out concerts in Canada in June, and couldn't attend due to her illness.

Leonard has been extremely sweet and loving to Judith during this time which has been really wonderful and healing for her.

Judith, I, and our entire family really appreciate all the love that is sent our way from all of you.
