TOTAL FRUSTRATION

Judith has two medical problems: a rare type of colon cancer, and a wound which developed in conjunction with a gastronomy tube that was inserted in connection with a surgical proceedure in May. I have written a great deal about the wound, which has been the reason for three recent hospitalizations over the past six weeks.

Yesterday the chief surgeon on her case at UCLA attempted to solve some of the recent and pressing problems with the wound by inserting a new and different tube. The plan was to have this solve the immediate problem in order that she could return home next Monday.

Not only did it not solve the problem, but the situation got worse.

In a conference with a lead member of the surgical team late tonight, it is apparent that the surgical team believes that all current efforts are not working, and they need to search for a new approach.

It is not only frustrating but completely depressing.

I don't have a warm, fuzzy stories for you tonight.

WES (aka the hopeful one)
