SCHLEPPING TO DOCTORS - PART I

We spent most of the day in doctors' offices. Not necessarily talking to doctors, just sitting in their waiting rooms and exam rooms WAITING to talk to them.

First it was a followup visit in Westwood with the surgeon who admitted her to UCLA hospital, but decided never to do the surgery ("too risky").

Later to a pain control specialist at UCLA in Santa Monica.

The purpose of both visits was to clarify all the conflicting opinions we have been getting about various medications that we have been provided for pain control, none of which has seemed to work. And of course we wanted to know if there is anything out there that WILL work in controlling Judith's severe intermittent daily episodes of pain.

We got some clarification and some new meds that maybe, maybe will help. But the fact that Judith can't take anything by mouth (which includes almost all pain meds for use outside of a hospital setting) and that noone can administer IV opiates in a home setting, leave us with almost no options.

Tomorrow is schlepping to doctors Part II as we head back to UCLA to drain the fluid buildup that has returned to Judith's abdomen, which I now know is called ascetis (sp?).

Also tomorrow we are really looking forward to a 3 day visit from Ruth and Cecil Herschler from Vancouver (their second recent visit to see Judith). They will be here through Saturday.

WES (aka the schlepper's schlepper)
