RE: VISIT TO ONCOLOGIST

The good news is that the chemotherapy has actually worked in unblocking Judith's bowels. At this point this doesn't really help because the "wound" still prevents Judith from eating food. As Dr. Hecht said "we won the battle but are probably losing the war".

The CAT scan, however, showed that the cancer has not spread, and the terrible abdominal distention which is causing Judith so much discomfort is probably mostly fluid, not tumor, and the doctors feel that they can try to remove some of that fluid through injecting special needles into that space and withdrawing some of the fluid. This may be tried in a couple of days, and if it works might also relieve pressure on the wound.

The big question being posed to Judith is whether to continue with chemo. She is taking this next week off to see if she can feel better without it's side effects, and if so she will resume chemo next Wednesday. If the side effects give her no quality of life and she stops chemotherapy, the cancer will grow. We are told that if she continues chemo, it will at some point stop being effective and the cancer will then grow as well.

It was, as you can imagine, a very depressing scenario to have to hear and contemplate.
